The Light Phenomenon

The launch of the crafty lighting module by the name of SLY, which was specially developed for LED technology, was nothing short of an enlightenment: smart design in the form of a flexible 7.5 cm square, in a set or solo, available as a floor, clip-on, pendant or recessed luminaire, five different colour temperatures, excellent energy efficiency with just eight watts, perfect thermal management, precise directioning, optimal brightness, natural colour rendering, customised production, resource-efficient manufacturing, an ultra-long lifespan – in a nutshell, the luminaire was compelling. At its very first exhibition – Light+Building – it was honoured with the Best of Design Plus 2010, going on to win the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany – the highest German accolade of all – in 2011.

Renowned luminaire designer Jürgen Komar and his wife Monika are fascinated by light and spent years working on and refining the design of the modular lighting system in their high-tech workshop. SLY works just as well in a public location as it does in a private setting: "Light means quality of life, it's the elixir of life, but everybody perceives light differently. That's why our system is designed for such a wide variety of different individual needs and areas of use, because personal wellbeing partly depends on whether the lighting in living spaces is perceived as harmonious. That's why our motto is 'create your own light'. With our little all-rounder SLY, every customer becomes his very own light artist."
