An intent silence fills the big, high-ceilinged, light-flooded rooms. Every single one of the women employed at Ege exquisit is a skilled specialist, and many of the ladies here have been contributing their experience for decades. They devote total concentration to their work, turning gorgeous and superb materials into table and bed linen, sewing custom-made shirts, lovingly embroidering the most delicate of christening robes or appliquéing hundreds of organza flowers that have been specially embroidered in St. Gallen onto white sateen that is destined to adorn a wedding table.

Haute couture for a sophisticated ambience – that's how the firm's discriminating customers describe it. Quality, perfection and artisanship is how Christoph Ege puts it. And as the third generation of his family to run Ege exquisit, he should know. Rooted in the tradition of linen weaving in the Swabian Jura, Ege exquisit has evolved into a distinguished and exclusive company over the last decades – and is often considered an insider tip.

For people who love the special, appreciate the individual and prefer one-offs to things that are available everywhere, this artisanal enterprise is a treasure trove. Exclusively made lace from St. Gallen, custom-designed brocaded damask from Piedmont, heavy pure linen, woven by a little artisanal factory in Ireland, gorgeous paisley fabrics, the finest Giza cotton from Egypt, rare Mongolian cashmere, unusual double-weave jacquards – once you've got over your astonishment, the abundance of colours and rolls of fabric on the workshop shelves makes you want to reach out and touch them.

All Ege exquisit customers can make their minds up and check whether the materials and colours fit in with the ambience of their own four walls before they decide to buy anything. Because Ege exquisit only sells its products via specially trained customer consultants, customers can make their choice in the familiar setting of their own home, far away from the hectic atmosphere of a department store.
