Eclisse 40 is the newest door system offered by the slide pocket door specialists, Eclisse. Technically, it is a frame with a 40 degree splay on one side, and all the mechanics incorporated into the panel and frame to make it flush to the wall on the other side. Visually, it is a departure for the company known for integrating doors invisibly into walls; while still the friend of the minimalist, on one side it sculpts the wall inwards, bringing decorative depth to the door.

Inspired by the splays of Romanesque and Gothic windows that open out inward from a narrow window, drawing light into a room, the Eclisse 40 is already making its own mark architecturally, having been selected for ADI DESIGN INDEX 2020, which inaugurates this month at Milan’s ADI Design Museum.

Garnering attention is its ability to combine architectural ornamentation with a highly technical integrated functionality, resolving the aesthetics of both contrasting sides of the doorway in one fell swoop. And the scope to customise and create a doorway that blends in or shouts its presence is vast. The splay comes in a choice of primer coated, white painted, light bronze, dark bronze or graphite bronze and according to the material palette of the rest of the room, can be paired with aluminium or glass door panels, each featuring multiple finishes.

Thought has also gone into how the Eclisse 40 might sit with other door solutions in the line – Eclisse Mimesi is an anodised aluminium perimeter applied to the passageway of Syntesis® Line sliding solutions, and can be finished in the same ways as Eclisse 40. A departure it may be, but harmony is still the name of the game.
