Elevating comfort into a ‘total living’ experience with Flou’s 2024 collection

Creating comfort within large interior spaces in residential and hospitality settings requires a scenography of voluminous furniture pieces that can warmly converse and flow. Where smooth curves blend, soft textures and calming colours synchronise, and forms smoothly adapt their functions from space to space, even extending to the outdoors. Essentially, a never-ending symphony of comfort that sets the stage for a domestic dream.

Expert in interior comfort, Italian brand Flou has anticipated this challenge with its latest 2024 collection, previewed at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair. The collection offers a series of new furniture pieces, including the modular Fiocco sofa and the luxurious Yuna bed, which hold enough personality to sculpturally hold their own in large spaces. Crafted with the finest Italian quality, the pieces are ideal for minimalists looking for furniture with a presence that can simply be combined with artwork, natural materials and quality fixtures to exude an atmosphere of comfortable luxury.

Islands of relaxation

Performing in space, the pieces provide an adaptable architecture to envelop and guide inhabitants. The Fiocco sofa offers a flexible composition of gently curved seating elements and large structural cushions that can be combined with a functional five-sided unit. ‘Fiocco’s ‘islands’ of generous dimensions are ideal for furnishing very large indoor and outdoor spaces and, above all, for creating an experience of abundance,’ says Massimiliano Messina, Flou President. ‘To ensure customised support, the modularity of Fiocco is truly extensive. Modules range from standard-sizes, to large pentagonal or hexagonal modules, and there are three heights of backrests and armrests,’ he continues.

Another highlight of the new collection is the curved metal Atollo table and coffee tables with round metal or marble tops. Created under Flou’s in-house brand Natevo, specialised in LED-integrated furniture, Atollo offers optional functions such as a sunken cylindrical container or softly glowing lamp to set the mood – ideal for minimalist interiors. Both the Fiocco and Atollo ranges can also be adapted for outdoor environments, so a smooth flow can be crafted.

The cult of sleep

Flou is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to exploring well-being, rest and sleep, the latter being at the centre of the latest trends, from ‘sleep tech’ to the viral ‘sleepmaxxing’. Founded in 1978 with the launch of its inaugural product, Nathalie, the first modern upholstered bed with completely removable covers, today Flou has evolved to represent all-around comfort with ‘total living concepts’ and has been awarded two prestigious ‘Compasso d’Oro’ awards, in 2004 and 2020, for its in-depth research connecting design and comfort.

The new Yuna and AtelierM beds are the latest generation of this expertise. A contemporary centrepiece, Yuna is the epitome of sensual elegance, with a sweeping upholstered headboard that extends to the sides of the sommier with slightly different radii of curvature. The AtelierM bed has an upholstered textile headboard with a subtly rhythmic vertical pleating effect and a base set in a folded sheet metal profile, available in various metallic finishes from anodic bronze to matt greige. ‘In both cases, these are two products for those searching for a bed that ‘stands out’ from the standard,’ says Messina.

Across the 2024 collection, textiles and finishes can be combined from Flou’s material selection of fabrics, leathers and finishes, ideal for maintaining a consistency of luxury, quality and durability across space. ‘While confirming our renowned ‘textile soul’, rooted in our obsession with fabrics, padding and comfort, for some years now, we have been extensively using metal across our bedroom and living space offerings, ennobling the material with a wide range of finishes that enhance its materiality.’ Not only does this composition of volume, function and materiality sound like a dream for a resident, but it also sounds like one for a designer too.
