The Eberhard Horn Design Group‘s two-storey office.

The interior is divided into two working levels (architects and planners on the first floor, remaining office space and reception on the ground floor). The two levels are connected to each other through the air space in the entrance area, the adjoining gallery on the first floor, and an open staircase. The floor and cabinets of the work areas have wooden floorboards, and are thereby separated from the corridors.

The exterior surfaces surrounding the building are covered with MYDECK Premium WPC boards. The linear design of the boards, which have won several awards for design and quality, ideally complements the modern façade. A special feature of the palma and bali colour shades used is that they consist of three different coloured planks, which are only mixed to create a lively effect during installation. The design is inspired by the multi-colours of tropical wood, but the wood used for MYDECK Premium WPC boards is PEFC certified and mainly from German and French forestry. Tropical wood is not used for MYDECK's easy-care boards.

THE STARTING POINT

The Gymnasium Neubiberg in the Munich area consists of two building blocks, between which there is an elongated entrance and school courtyard. The school's main entrance is located at the end point of this courtyard. The extension building planned by the Munich-based Peck.Daam architects acts as a "head building" and provides the prelude to this spatial structuring.

LIBRARY CONCEPT

The extension building, which houses the library with a large terrace, was designed as an elevated concrete table in order to integrate the existing bicycle parking spaces on the ground floor into the planning. The library itself was constructed in solid wood.

The space offers the pupils various places of retreat. On the one hand, this is a quiet and working space with desks, separated by glass walls. The Alcove Highback Sofa by Vitra creates private spaces in the large library room, which is very popular with the students. Furthermore, beanbags and small armchairs invite the students to read. All the seating options are used by the pupils of the grammar school and can be moved around according to their personal needs.

INVITING SOUTH TERRACE

The library is extended by a south terrace. The roof of the terrace is designed in such a way that the trees planted on the terrace can grow through it, creating a special play of light and shade on the terrace decking.

The splinter-free and low-maintenance MYDECK Premium WPC boards in the grey "boston" colour were chosen as the terrace decking for the outdoor area.

The weatherproof WPC decking from MYDECK is made of wood from sustainable forestry and recyclable polyethylene. The boards are manufactured in Germany and have already received several awards for design and quality. Most recently, the terrace decking was awarded the German Design Award 2022.

The spacious terrace with the inviting round benches around the tree trunks is used by the library's visitors and is also a popular playground.
