Sokos Hotel

This legendary hotel in the center of Helsinki has moved to a new era. The new hotel design represents Finnish phenomenon through five different takes of modern Finnishness. Hotel Presidentti, one of Finland´s biggest hotels with its nearly 500 rooms, was opened by President Urho Kaleva Kekkonen in 1980. The new hotel concept was developed in collaboration with fashion brand Ivana Helsinki. The extensive renovation covers the entrance lobby area, the seminar and meeting room floor, the auditorium, the VIP sauna and the hotel room floors.

The hotel consists of five different theme floors: winter forest, midsummer, magical forest, sisu and tranquility. Each floor represents an interpretation of modern Finnishness with edgy contrasts and northern atmospheres. After all, Finland is a country of bright summer nights and gloomy winter days. We own and embrace the mindset for both guts (=sisu) and silence. And we thrive from coping with frost, cold and ice. The hotel interior design evolves from all these ideas.

The architectonically grand lobby welcomes visitors with a 10-meter-long hand graven timber counter in front of a shiny copper mirror. This is only one example of the numerous contrasting materials and finishes forming this live integrity. Other loved and shared features besides the golden catwalk leading to the monumental staircase and the original copper sculpture are the gigantic wooden moose and wolf that give memorable and playful characteristics to the busy lobby area.
