The new Weltstadthaus in Vienna designed by the star architect David Chipperfield is home to Peek & Cloppenburg’s very nearly 12,000 m² large flagship store. Ansorg has implemented an extensive lighting conception that harmonises in an optimum way with the abundant incidence of daylight.

The opening of the new Weltstadthaus on 01 September 2011 was a further milestone in the Peek & Cloppenburg’s fashion history. In the historic Kärtner Straße David Chipperfield designed an architecturally modern department store which, nevertheless, does justice to the historical background. One striking characteristic are the large window façades which give the building its profile and height, frame numerous fascinating views of Vienna’s city centre and naturally make possible a high incidence of daylight. The atrium in the middle of the sales area that connects the six floors via an escalator is likewise flooded with abundant daylight through a glazed roof dome.

With the massive incidence of daylight, Peek & Cloppenburg follows a typical feature of its stores. Ansorg’s lighting concept underlines the gleaming bright and lively ambiance of the store and sets the stage for the P&C fashion realm in an optimum way. The concept extends consistently over all six floors. The merchandise shelves in the peripheral areas are emphasised by means of Punta recessed spotlights. For the large-area wall illumination, the recessed spotlights are equipped with 70W HIT discharge lamps, in addition narrow-beam Puntas with 35W lamps ensure exciting accents on the products. Only on the ground floor are, due to the ceiling height, the narrow-beam Punta luminaires also fitted with 70W lamps. Lighting in the middle of the room and in the aisle areas is provided by the recessed downlights Linea and Maxx, likewise fitted with 70W lamps. In the shop window area, Brick spotlights with 70W HIT lamps ensures exciting accents.
The surface-mounted spotlight Take, with its innovative convex dome-shaped reflector, provides the activity areas on the second floor with brilliant and glare-free presentation light.
A special solution all round the stairwell ensures the inter-floor vertical lighting of the atrium.
