“Mono” is a master of adaptation. It appears familiar, but yet it exudes a very special aura. The classic, elegant representative of Wittmann upholstery carries the thumbprint of its designer Marco Dessí and impresses with maximum adaptability. You might think that an upholstered seat on angled wooden feet framed by a rounded back would seem banal since there are already countless numbers of similar chairs. “Mono”, however, clearly distinguishes itself from this group by refining the familiar to perfection. You can feel that „Mono“ was created by hand. It is obvious that the lines and curves were carefully traced out during its design. The gentle, yet dynamic curves are testimony to absolute precision.
Its gentle curves are not only pleasing to the eye. They carefully support the buttocks, back and shoulders. The foundation is provided by a stable, but light wood frame with handmade suspension and an elastic crossed surcingle. Four layers of foam rubber in the seat and back and the crowning with fine cotton padding, complete the perfection of seating comfort. The clearly visible effort was worth it. When you sit on the “Mono” you simply cannot imagine sitting better or more elegantly. Studio Marco Dessí is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Vienna. The studio’s approach is practical and collaborative, where design is understood as an interactive process. Self-initiated ventures serve to experiment with materials and test processes that can be later applied onto commercial projects and/or developed further to meet the requirements of industrial or handmade replication. Commissioned design work always starts with immediate study of the client, their respective production methods and methods’ inherent potentials. Dessí’s studio is not committed to any particular style, preferred material or unified formula, but rather regards designing as a trade characterised by a deep understanding of materials, processes and how the two are linked. The way in which an object is produced has a direct influence over its aesthetic appearance and the story that it tells. In his work, Marco Dessí values transparency in terms of a consistent link between the process of designing and the actual conditions of production. Established in 2008, the studio works with a list of international clients and cultural institutions on a variety of scales, ranging from furniture and product design to spatial solutions.
