Risers

They can have a natural surface, if they are obtained from thin raw quarry slabs, or have a machined surface if obtained sawing the slabs from a block (excluding the semi-lucid surface obtained from raw quarry slabs). The natural surface risers have a variable thickness and need particular attention while working the visible heads, which can be calibrated and manufactured as the treads heads. The surface and the visible heads of the risers with a machined surface can be flamed, coated, polished or lucid.

They form a fundamental part of steps and are used to cover their vertical side. Usually risers and treads undergo the same manufacturing, although, sometimes, different finishing and colors can be combined, to obtain a particular effect.
