Kilo comprises a milled cylinder of blackened solid steel and a silken shade, linked by a slender tube finished in polished nickel or brass. The pairing of small base and large shade seems to defy rules of balance, yet, standing 55.5 centimeters high, the table lamp is a counterpoint to the delightful precariousness of the floor-lamp design.

Its appearance of greater stability makes this luminaire suitable for console tables and other delicate surfaces, particularly in areas that would benefit from ambient illumination.

Concept

Kilo derives its name from the milled cylinder that comprises its highly stable base. Yet the character of the design owes entirely to its asymmetrical pairing of that pure mass to a large shade. In combining the blackened, solid-steel base with a crown of natural silk, designer J.T. Kalmar effected playfulness and elegance in a freestanding luminaire. Its slender shaft and metal details may be finished in a polished nickel or brass.
