Photo concrete
Architonic ID: 1181417
Concept
There are two methods of putting a photo on concrete. A surface setting retardant is applied to a plastic film, placed in the mould and then the concrete is poured in. Once the formwork is removed, the concrete matrix is washed off and the image becomes visible. Alternatively, a photo is scanned and converted to 265 greyscale. A CNC moulding cutter cuts the image design onto a panel, which is used to make a plastic mould. The raised surface of the concrete reproduces the original image simply through the effect of light and shadow.
