The divan-base Jalis sofa brings a touch of the Orient into the home. Oriental traditions of sitting and relaxing were the inspiration for this sofa programme. So it is not surprising that it always looks as if a few loose cushions are lying together. The archetypal seating furniture is reduced entirely to its original form – the folded cushion. The straight contours are ingeniously emphasised by a double cut seam. In addition, the divan-base design is particularly versatile: The individual, sumptuously designed seating elements can be used separately as an easy chair or stool, or as a sofa or an entire reclining area.
Concept
Cushions are archetypical pieces of seating furniture, especially in Arab countries. With the Jalis chairs they are raised to a European seating level and transformed into chairs. It looks simple, but that is deceptive. What looks like a cushion with a kink in it is in fact a complexly upholstered, comfortable and stably built item of seating furniture and a relative of the eponymous sofa. The chair comes with different frames, ranging from wood to metal. For all those who cannot get enough of Jalis, here is the bar stool. with a chrome-plated wire frame or a wooden frame in oak, walnut or a lacquered finish, as well as chrome-plated footrests providing support on all sides. Jalis remains true to the idea of cushions placed loosely on top, both with and without a backrest. The cushions have a particularly striking effect if you opt for the saddle stitch seams in contrasting colours. Whether at home or in public spaces, Jalis is ready and waiting to provide hours of relaxation in the best of company.
No distractions. Room for the architecture of serenity. Jalis is the magical word from the Orient for hospitality and relaxed communication with family members or friends. In any circumstances, for any living area. Cushions side by side, stories one after another. This is how oases of well-being – and favourite sofas – come about. Special upholstery provides support and fabulous comfort. Another secret? The Patio cover fabric with ornaments woven into it. Only becoming visible when the incidence of light changes, its patterns assume the appearance of fine embroidery. Diversity from one form. Jehs & Laub have elevated the cushion to the status of seating furniture, and its ex-pansive surfaces and arrays to that of a product range. Jalis can float, rest on pedestals, integrate or highlight tables, change levels, and incorporate niches and floor recesses. No matter where it stands, its enclosing backrests and deep seats create a sense of security.
Service tables: sofa and little occasional tables are a story unto themselves even though they were originally designed to augment specific seating designs. You will also find them scattered throughout this brochure, partnering seating bearing the same name.
