Concept
Develius is the epitome of lounging in luxury. Conceived by Dutch designer Edward van Vliet, the shape is actually a composition of three enormous cushions. An ultra modern expression of a modular sofa, allowing you to arrange the various components to create a very personal sofa – and your own piece of paradise.
“I wanted to design a sofa that would utterly exude relaxation,” explains van Vliet. “The core concept behind Develius is a composition of cushions. To make the sofa seem lighter, there’s space underneath to feel like you’re floating above the floor. The rectangular version is reminiscent of a chaise longue. By having square versions and various sizes, you can make all kinds of sofa configurations to create a collage of impressions. It’s all about personalising your space- and your experience.”
Develius is comprised of 16 different modular sofa components varying in depth, width and shape from rectangular to square. Including versions with and without arms, as well as a variety of poufs and the option of lush, loose cushions. Create a cosy corner in a private space. Or a lavish lounge area in a more public arena. Assemble a love seat for two or an expanded version for four or more. You could even use the pouf as an informal side table. The possibilities are practically endless.
“With its long rectangular seats, Develius is like several chaise longue you can cluster together,” notes &tradition CEO / Founder Martin Kornbek Hansen. “Even the square versions signal a luxurious sense of lounging. There are so many different sizes, shapes and configurations. You can create an intimate setting. Change your mind and just change the way you arrange the seats. Add a luxurious feel with velvet or go for a mix of fabrics, textures and tones. You decide.”
It all echoes van Vliet’s unique approach to creating not just design – but design experiences.
