Start me up

It’s somewhat fitting that imm cologne – the original big-top design fair of the modern era, launched back in 1949 – should open its doors at the start of each year. It’s long been more than just a product showcase, serving also as a platform for new interiors concepts and a compass for trend directions. The 2020 edition of the fair, which runs 13 to 19 January, offers interior professionals a comprehensive and structured perspective on interior design today as a well as the perfect location for getting in contact with the business partners of tomorrow. And possibly a glass or two of Cologne’s go-to tipple, ‘Kölsch’ too. Add to that a brimming programme of supporting events including Das Haus, Smart Village and Pure Talent, and imm cologne is, in short, the ideal way for architects and interior design professionals to start 2020 with a bang.

Urbanisation and the infrastructure challenges that come with it doesn’t just pose one of the biggest problems of the future; it will also be one of the themes that dominate public discourse, along with the climate debate and digitalisation. Will the interiors sector respond to the growing desire for better housing quality in a small space with intelligent solutions? How ecological can furniture be?

How are people’s requirements of furniture changing, and are new furniture types emerging as a result? Which new basic parameters will interior designers and architects have to work with in future? And last but not least, which colours, materials and design developments will be on show at imm cologne 2020? In January 2020, new product launches and interior concepts from approx. 1,200 exhibitors in 10 halls will be providing the answers at imm cologneDISCOVER INTERIOR IDEAS.

Roll with it: AKTTEM

Not every company can boast of being able to really move its customers, but German furniture, lighting and lifestyle manufacturer AKTTEM can – quite literally. With their playful and engaging Roll Chair collection, which can be found in Puma’s Flagship Store in New York among other places, users are gently massaged and rolled by way of its rotatable bars on both seat and back.

AKTTEM’s formula for success combines a number of factors: dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability, a love of material and performance, and a mission to create meaningful interactions between object and user.

The Roll Chair, as well as equally innovative and versatile products such as their Rope Light and Light Curtain, can be experienced in Hall 3.2 Stand E049 at next January’s imm cologne 2020, where the brand will also be celebrating its two-year anniversary. So, why not roll on down there and say hello?
