Bright lights, big city

It’s probably true that when you think of neon-lit metropolises and 24-hour cities, the first ones to spring to mind are places like New York, Tokyo, Paris or London. But from 8 to 13 March 2020 you can add another one to the list: Frankfurt.

Light + Building is the world’s number-one trade fair for lighting and building-services technology, where professionals from the lighting, home automation and electrical-engineering sectors come together to discover the future of these industries. And this year’s edition has a particularly futuristic feel. Dynamic digitalisation will be the exhibition’s central theme, organised under the three banners of Connecting, Pioneering and Fascinating – covering everything from e-charging infrastructure, through BIM, to light’s place in the smart home and beyond.

It’s going to be bright, so don’t forget to pack your sunglasses.

How fascinating

Fascinating is the top theme that focuses on light and luminaire design, while at the same time showing how light can be part of a connected, smart home or workplace.

It is organised under four headings: Functional aesthetics, which focuses on function over ornamentation; Classic authenticity looks at lighting designs that never get old; Historical ascendency presents luminaires which link past and future, while Futuristic focus looks at, well, the future – where light and luminaires are smart, portable, light and sustainable.
