The global phenomenon of urbanisation continues apace, bringing with it a host of infrastructural, not to mention, social, economic and health, issues. According to the UN, two-thirds of the world's population will be living in cities by 2050.

One key question for governments and urban planners is how to keep citizens moving. With some old metro systems feeling the strain, a cohort of new underground lines, fit for future purpose, are attempting to marry performance with place-making, turning the commute into something altogether more pleasurable.
