You can't keep a buoyant industry down. Even with the most
inclement of weather. Dramatic winds, lashing rain, and cancelled trains and flights did nothing to dampen the emphatically up-beat mood at this year's imm cologne, where exhibitors were full of smiles.

Orders were clearly being placed and long-term business relationships forged or renewed. The year's first big-top design fair felt like a real coming-together.

Many brands chose to bring their products together, too, on their stands, creating large, landscape-like mise-en-scènes that encouraged visitors to commune with one another. Maybe, in the digital age we live in, it's never been more important to enjoy a bit of real, human proximity.
