The latest data shows a resurgence of the hospitality business, but less so in big cities. As remote working – at least part of the time – becomes a permanent fixture, suburban bars and restaurants are experiencing a renaissance. For hotels, meanwhile, it's those in more rural settings, whose considered designs respond materially and formally to their immediate context, that international-travel-restricted, retreat-minded guests are discovering.

Sweet dreams
It’s perhaps no coincidence that Zeitraum’s new Britta Nehrdich-designed Eclair bed shares its name with the irresistible French pastry – synonymous with pleasure and the bringing together of simple elements to create something that’s more than the sum of its parts.

Bavaria-based Zeitraum brings passion, craftsmanship, and a holistic, sustainable approach to the design and manufacture of its high-quality, German-made wood furniture – all on show in the new Eclair. Available in a number of woods, the bed's light, elegant, minimalistic base almost floats above the ground while its gently rounded edges offer a soft, welcoming, secure feel. This is matched with an inviting, upholstered headrest that’s stable enough to support sitting up but also functions perfectly as a comfortable headrest when lying down or reading. In short: simple, soft and sensuous, just like its French namesake. Read more
