Sleeping with old flames

It was only a matter of time before the experience-driven approach to hotel design got on board the adaptive-reuse train. Underpinned by the cultural and environmental benefits of repurposing existing structures – particularly landmark ones – some of the latest projects internationally demonstrate how the hotel is becoming even more compelling as a destination in its own right thanks to a considered, palimpsest-like layering of architectural history.

Paris Court, Budapest, by Archikon and Kroki

  The restoration of Paris Court in downtown Budapest is the result of a partnership between two offices: architects Archikon and interior design studio Kroki. Working in close cooperation to restore the building to its former grandeur, it has now been repurposed as a five-star hotel.
