It's no coincidence that we're choosing light – that intangible, mercurial, yet fundamental architectural element, with all its space-shaping, dramatic and storytelling potential – as the focus for the first issue of our new-look Architonic Project Newsletter. Light establishes a promise; it allows us to read space, makes it intelligible and navigable. We hope our new newsletter series provides the same level of illumination and guidance.

Light grey

Based in the German town of Vreden, close to the Dutch border, ingrau specialises in all things concrete. For Jens Maaßen, the company’s founder and a qualified concrete and terrazzo master, the material has long held a fascination. The company’s bespoke range spans everything from worktops, tables and sinks to building elements and unique gift items. All with one thing in common, of course: concrete is the hero.

In 2020, it launched its first lighting product InLight, a pendant luminaire whose clean lines manage to combine a sculptural, robust feel with – thanks to 5mm walls – a simultaneous lightness. Add in modern LED technology and it’s little wonder that it’s already picked up a 2020 Iconic Award – surely, not the last for the innovative young company. Find out more
