Looking up

As the design industry puts its best foot forward after the early challenges of 2020, we continue to showcase some of the best new premium products out there – this time from Zeitraum, Laufen and next125.

Our Product News 2020 channel is still growing, too, where manufacturers can upload their new products entirely for free, and architects and others can avail of a fresh source of professional inspiration.

Curtain Up!

With its new Curtain table, ZEITRAUM – solid-wood furniture expert from the Bavarian Alps – brings a welcome dash of drama to everyday life. On first sight, you may not trust your eyes as you see a solid, hardwood tabletop sit seemingly on a floating pair of drapes. A closer look though will show instead precision-crafted, hand-finished wood, shaped into soothing, wave-like forms.

Designed by Läufer & Keichel, the Curtain table comes in ash, walnut or oak variations and is equally at home in the dining- or conference room. It shares the same green credentials as all of ZEITRAUM’s other Made in Germany collections – with materials sourced from sustainable forests and finished in pure oils which allow wood to breathe naturally. A table, in short, that should have specifiers calling for an encore.

Super bowl

Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen’s innovative spirit has been helping to shape bathroom design for the past 125 years – technologically as well as aesthetically. Their latest development ‘save!’, however, holds potential for an impact far beyond the tiled walls of the WC.

‘save!’ is a separation toilet, which, without the use of complex technology, but, rather via clever design, allows urine to be of siphoned off into a separate channel, preventing it from mixing with wastewater. The benefits are specifically twofold: separating urine from wastewater reduces detrimental algae growth in our rivers; at the same time, urine is full of the nutrients that help plants to grow, so can be used in organic fertiliser manufacture. ‘save!’ represents a chance for systematic change. Laufen is leading; hopefully, others will follow.

The next big thing
Authentic kitchen design from next125

The kitchen is the heart of the home: the centre of domestic life, where families and friends congregate, cook, consume and communicate. But, as home designs become more open-plan, the kitchen plays not only an emotional role in the home, it’s given more architectural consideration too.

At the cutting-edge of contemporary kitchen design is next125, the premium brand of Schüller Möbelwerk KG. Take their new Innovations collection, which perfectly embodies the brand’s holistic approach and dedication to innovation, high-quality functionality and timeless design. The range includes numerous elements: a trolley, a tall unit with retractable doors, a glass cabinet and the especially eye-catching cooking island: a centrepiece – gently minimalist in its design but offering maximum utility – that, despite its generous mass, seems to float on air.
