It was Winston Churchill of all people who said that "We make our buildings and afterwards they make us. They regulate the course of our lives." There might be no better a case in point than the ongoing proliferation of co-working spaces globally, which, beyond taking up residence in new-build, city-centre projects, have taken full advantage of the architectural trend in adaptive reuse.

For these are spaces whose design not only facilitates but actively drives the new work culture of collaboration, exchange and entrepreneurship. Architecturally speaking, the old rule book is out the window. If there are windows you can open.

Jungle Station, G8A Architecture & Urban Planning
Photo: Tran Nhat Quang
G8A Architecture & Urban Planning created a "Green Connector” – a vertical and horizontal vegetal spine – for the Jungle Station co-working space in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Besides regulating the temperature, it creates opportunities for socialising among the workspaces dotted along its central plantations.  The organic volumes come into greater focus contrasted by industrial details such as support beams, ventilation systems and cabling.

A new generation of furniture: Normcore
gumpo is launching a new collection. Normcore has been created in collaboration with Munich-based design studio Relvãokellermann and contains furniture with a clear and distinct design language that blends into its environment. It goes without saying that the collection is more than suitable for the modern office. But what is more important: This furniture does not dominate its location. It is laid-back, reduced – and fits simply into our time. An accelerated world of work demands simple solutions.
Solutions that can be combined perfectly together. Like our collection.
