The office is coming home

Welcome to the first in a new series of Architonic newsletters that focus squarely on our member manufacturers' new products for 2020.

We've called it 'Product Focus'. A literal name for a simple and direct way for brands to get their latest product news out there.

Our first issue looks at furniture for home office (if ever there were a more timely subject!) from a number of leading brands – Mara, Wagner, Interstuhl and IOC.

So make sure your chair is correctly adjusted and, above all, please stay well!

PS: We're inviting both members and non-members of Architonic to upload their latest product news to our new Product News 2020 channel on architonic.com. For free! Just one of the ways we're continuing to support the industry in these difficult times...

The modern office is an ever-changing, ever-evolving landscape. Roles are becoming more fluid and, increasingly, workers are demanding that the spaces as well as the tools they use be flexible enough to reflect this new reality.

Modern, dynamic workspaces require office furniture to match and this is where Follow – the eco-friendly, ultra-adjustable table family from Italian office furniture specialist Mara – rolls into view. Sometimes literally.

Follow tables operate safely, silently and entirely without an external power source. With the simple touch of a paddle, they adjust instantly to their users’ specific needs. So whether you’re a stander or a sitter, need a flat surface or a tilted one, want to work communally or free-up space for an event – or indeed a combination of all over the course of the day, Mara shows the way. All you need to do is follow.

Active sitting

With more of the world’s workforce office-based than ever, one unavoidable consequence is the subsequent need for sitting – lots of sitting. Unfortunately, for many, this often leads to back pain.

Luckily, German chair specialists Wagner are on the case – a good thing for specifiers and users alike. They believe in comfort, sure, but furthermore, that well-being is optimised when design, movement and health are in harmony.

Take their D1 chair family, by Stefan Diez. Central to its pared-back, elegant design is the core element of its functionality, the Dondola® 4D – a revolutionary mechanism whose four-axis movement allows it to adjust and react to every movement acted on it, thus engaging the back and body in physical exercise. Active sitting, if you will.

Healthy, happy home (office)

In our ‘new-work’ era, there’s nothing extraordinary about the concept of working from home. Recently, however, more of us than ever have been compelled to ‘do home office’. And with many forced to utilise regular, domestic chairs over the course of the working day, we’re perhaps developing a new appreciation for the office chair. And, not least, if it’s a Pure model from Interstuhl.

Seven years in development, the Pure chair blends high-quality materials with innovation and slick design. Its Smart Spring technology ensures that users sit both actively and ergonomically. Strong emphasis has also been placed on sustainability, with almost a third of the chair’s materials coming from recycled sources, and 98% suitable for recycling post-use.

So, maybe it’s time to bring that office chair home and make your home office a more happy, healthy one.

Flexi-time

The modern work environment requires us to be agile and open to new ideas, and perhaps never more so than now as companies scramble to adjust to a new professional reality. How we manage space is, and will be, of optimal importance.

Italian firm IOC project partners  are no strangers to the concept of change, innovation and flexibility when it comes to the office. They have been creating entire workspace environments since 1992 and this flexibility is embodied in their modular acoustic screen Monforte.

Monforte is a soundproof, mobile, articulated screen system that can be freely arranged to meet the immediate needs of its users. Both physically and functionally flexible, it allows spaces for group- or more private activities to be spontaneously created – an increasingly important consideration for office planners and designers looking for intelligent room solutions.
