You can't keep a good kitchen down. Materially diverse and architecturally expressive, the latest projects serve to remind us just how far this 'room' typology has transcended its traditional utilitarian function. As much a space for keeping social relations nicely warm as it is a places for warming up food, there's no set menu these days, creatively speaking, when it comes to the contemporary kitchen.

Hail, Cesar! 

We freed ourselves from the kitchen a long time ago. And now Cesar, the go-to Italian manufacturer for materially rich, customisable kitchen cabinets, has freed the built-in architecture of the kitchen from the kitchen itself. UNIT is a freestanding cabinet system that marries complete planning freedom with an optical lightness.  

Fully industrially produced and available in a range of finishes, it is supported by a matte-lacquered aluminium base and serves, through its architectural presence, to define kitchen interiors. What's more, with its clean lines countered by a lack of sharp edges and a judicious use of decorative detail, it helps support the trend in kitchens as friendly, social spaces.
