BRAND NEW WORLD

Text: Brand New World

BRAND NEW WORLD, produced by Vesna and Jovan Jelovac, forecasters of design future, presents some of the most exiting design works of 2015, in what is arguably one of the most elegant showrooms in Milan - DUŠAN. BRAND NEW WORLD shows “DESIGN 2.0” powered by LAUFEN, bringing together key international studios who epitomise the new concept of Designers - Makers - Entrepreneurs, rethinking the entire business and creative model, unthinkable only a few years ago. The stellar line-up includes DANTE - GOODS AND BADS, STUDIO DRIFT, TOM STRALA, STUDIO APPETIT, ADRIEN ROVERO, BURO BELEN, REINIER BOSCH & CAROLINA WILCKE, and ILAN GARIBI FOR GAL GAON COLLECTION. An exquisite opening vernissage will feature a musical score by the German DJ Wunderkinds – Kill The Tills – powered by ARCHITONIC.

Brand New World’s curator, Jovan Jelovac, said: “We are very excited to recreate the idea of a classical author’s salon at Dušan’s so fashionable showroom, with works and the spirit matching his own terribly high couture propositions. After all, the name is Saloni, not another Design Week, and the city is none less than Milano, so we are speaking of rarefied class, deeply rooted in both cutting-egde avant-garde, as well as laser-sharp craftsmanship. The location is smack bang in the middle of town, in one of the legendary Gio Ponti buildings, on the border of Brera and the new up-and-coming San Gregorio area, which our friends from Wallpaper*, Droog Design and Kvadrat, among others, have so beautifully opened for international design now. Congratulations!”

Ventura Lambrate 2015

Text: Ventura Lambrate

From April 14 to 19, Ventura Lambrate invites you to see what is happening in contemporary design. During the Salone del Mobile in Milan, a curated selection of over 176 exhibitors originating from 36 different countries will be on show.

Whether it’s explorations of new technologies and biological processes, prestigious installations and joint initiatives, mergings between disciplines, or academies’ exhibitions of research-based projects and design investigations, you can experience it at Ventura Lambrate 2015.

This edition, there will be a special online shop, in collaboration with CROWDY HOUSE, where visitors can buy their favorite Ventura products. Other highlights include furniture that is self-assembling by Wood-Skin and MIT Self Assembly Lab, and the launch of LABEL/BREED, a label that establishes collaborations between designers and manufacturers so they can share knowledge of the latest techniques and develop innovative products - participants include Christien Meindertsma and Studio Wieki Somers.

Never before were there so many academies present at Ventura Lambrate. The projects vary from thorough investigations about food consumption by Design Academy Eindhoven to explorations on how technology, science and craft can inform a better, more sustainable tomorrow by the Master ‘Material Futures’ of Central Saint Martins.

Special design reporters will stroll through the area capturing the coolest work and the atmosphere. The drawings, renderings and sketches that are created by the reporters are drawn by hand on the pages of Moleskine Notebooks and collected at a special documentation centre.

The Intelligence: Architonic’s new Trend Analysis series

It’s natural to compare. We all do it. Call it human nature. When such sizing-up is motivated by dissatisfaction or inadequacy, it’s probably not such a healthy activity. But if it’s underpinned by a desire to take stock, to see where you stand amongst your peers and how you can improve, it can reap reward. And when it has a clear business benefit, so much the better.

As the world’s leading and most-trusted research tool for the specification of premium architectural and design products, Architonic is uniquely placed to offer its community relevant and valuable insights into developments in the architecture and design markets. Because our curated database of in excess of 200,000 products (representing 1,300 brands and 6,200 designers) is the first port of call for over 16 million professionals and design-conscious users a year looking for the very best, we’re able to see exactly what’s being searched for actively across hundreds of product categories and looked at in terms of page views, and to transform all of this into an ongoing series of fascinating and, importantly, unbiased trend analyses.

SUPERDESIGN SHOW

Text: Superstudio

Superstudio Group celebrates 15 years as the leader of international design in Milan with the new format SUPERDESIGN SHOW, an evolutionary project that replaces and incorporates the success of the “Temporary Museum for New Design”. Furthermore, this year’s edition will have a special focus on trends in interior-design fabrics with the project SUPERTEXTILE.

On show at Superstudio Più, across 10,000 square metres of exhibition spaces, will be the most interesting Italian and international production, along with lifestyle projects and proposals that make design their starting point, which speculate about the present and the future of our houses, of work and knowledge places, in the urban habitat and in our lives.

BRERA DESIGN DISTRICT

Text: Brera Design District

With the upcoming week of Fuorisalone 2015 (Milan, April 14th‐19th) the Brera Design District comes to its sixth edition. Heartened by this great result, this year it will offer a non‐stop calendar of events and a format featuring: a themed topic, the Design Lessons Award, a series of meetings, special projects and cultural events. This year's ambassadors: designer Luca Nichetto, hosting three events in Brera, artist Patrick Tuttofuoco with his installation in Piazzetta Brera, and the architecture firm Piuarch, based in Via Palermo, introducing the project “Milan and its gardens”.

This year's topic is Project Formation Identity. The aim of this theme is to question today's meaning of identity, whose concept has lost strength due to an overload of images at the expense of a project‐based culture. In design, thinking over this assumption means digging at the roots of an invention in order to study from close range the processes leading to a development of creative uniqueness.

Furthermore, the project Design Capital – The seven days that makes Milan the capital of design will premiere on April 10th: an independent documentary by Studiolabo in collaboration with Andrea Cuman, Massimiliano Fraticelli and Patrizio Saccò, who is also the director of the film. The documentary collects the voices of different influential designers, such as Ron Gilad and Marten Baas, and opinion makers like Wallpaper* and CoolHunting, to tell us about the ideas, ambitions, wishes of those who arrive in Milan, even if for a few days only, to experience the vibrant, lively atmosphere of Fuorisalone.
