It's all systems go!
 
The world’s oldest trade fair for design – imm cologne – has long been a trusty barometer for the A&D industry. Setting the mood music for the year, it functions as both showcase for new products and platform for new trends and thinking. Its 2019 edition was certainly no exception. 
 
Schönbuch, Conde House and next125 were among the premium brands to set up their stalls in Cologne earlier this month, showing how quality, innovation and considered aesthetics never go out of fashion.

Screen time: Schönbuch's new Lola room divider

In today’s open plan homes or offices, we often crave a little privacy. The Lola room divider was developed by designer Bodo Sperlein to enable a space within a space. At the same time it offers some clever additional functions.

The characterful design is inspired by classic folding partitions and comprises elegant panels with rounded corners that are connected by hinges with a brass finish. Available in a wide range of colours, the panels can be customised by adding hooks, shelves or a mirrored panel. Three, four or five panels can be combined in different configurations to create a personalised partition that provides privacy wherever it is needed.

Celebrating 50 years in business, premium Japanese furniture brand Conde House is a company with as much longevity as its products. Both are in it for the long haul. 
 
Eschewing the vagaries of fashion, the pared-down, yet expressive quality of its products – authored by a raft of Japanese designers, including Naoto Fukasawa and Nendo – is more of a quietly voiced study in the relation between natural materials and space than a full-throated declaration of newness and trend. Think meditative chant rather than a big shout...
