Biography

Yasmine Mahmoudieh

Yasmine Mahmoudieh was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1961. She studied art history in Florence, architecture at the L'école d’ingénieurs de genève in Switzerland, interior design at the college of Notre Dame in San Francisco and architecture and interior design at Ucla in Los Angeles, where she was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. In 1986, Yasmine founded her own design studio in Los Angeles and now has offices in Berlin and London.

Yasmine has a holistic approach to design which allows her to undertake a wide range of typologies from hotels and shopping centres to office complexes and multi–purpose venues, as well as to restaurants and exhibitions. She has accumulated an impressive list of projects ranging from the interior design for the airbus a380 to the Massachusetts Museum of contemporary art. Her work in hotels includes exclusive lifestyle design hotels such as the Nevaï in Verbier (which opened in december 2007 to great acclaim) and the award–winning hotel Rheinsberg (which won the prestigious European hotel design award in the United Kingdom and the International core design award in Stockholm), tailored for disabled guests.

She provides clients, investors and operators with market–driven, design–led services as well as product concepts that communicate brand values, increase user satisfaction and pr opportunities. Yasmine pioneers the use of alternative and unconventional materials in interior design, such as sportswear fabrics for soft furnishings or high–quality synthetics combined with natural wood. She sees lighting as the ultimate tool in interior design; beautifully designed lighting schemes are at the heart of her work.

Completed projects to date include the Radisson Sas Copenhagen, the Millennium centre shopping mall in Budapest, the Headquarters of Aon in Hamburg and the Intercontinental Berchtesgaden Resort in Obersalzberg (the latter won the influential world travel award 2007 as one of the world’s leading spa resorts). Petersburg hotel and retail complex, the 220000m² ocean park complex and aquarium in Moscow and a signature office building in Bucharest.

Philosophy

innovation instead of convention

yasminemahmoudieh develops innovative design and architectural concepts, from urban planning to interior architecture. her unique holistic approach to design –which merges human psychology, cutting–edge technology, and alternative materials, through the intense intertwining of natural and cultural environments– has resulted in an acclaimed international showcase of award–winning, one–of–a–kind projects. her highly selective projects include interior and exterior conceptual design for exclusive hotels, museums, business complexes and office towers, retail, and mixed–use spaces. lighting, furniture, and product design are also integral disciplines.

closing the gap between idea and location at the center of yasmine mahmoudieh's philosophy is the strong belief in letting the cultural and environmental surroundings shape the individual character of every project, the core purpose being to strengthen the connection between spaces and their inhabitants. this organic approach fuses modern design and functionality and does not lose sight of the two most important factors: human wants and needs. creating tomorrow's world today by both drawing from and transcending tradition, yasmine mahmoudieh's work goes far beyond current trends. through integration of cultural and environmental influences with unconventional forms, spatial arrangements, and materials, her designs create a visual dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary. whether using a synthetic material simulating ice for a mixed–use project in st. petersburg, aircraft materials for an aviation–themed hotel in dubai, or sportswear fabrics for new innovations in furniture, every project is individually tailored to best achieve its ultimate purpose, while redefining space and function in new, unexpected ways.

complete solutions from one source fusion of european and american influences. attention to business and economic aspects, as well as to human sensory perception. a comprehensive network of strategic alliances. the interconnectedness that defines yasmine mahmoudieh's design work is also at work on a larger level, resulting in cost–effective and environmentally–conscious solutions. from initial strategy and briefing to the final product, yasmine mahmoudieh will personally oversee her projects from start to finish.

on the competitive edge yasmine mahmoudieh's references include a long list of high–profile clients from all over the globe, from private investors to multi–national corporations, including erste bank wien, airbus, radisson sas hotels & resorts worldwide, and kempinski hotels. her ability to predict industry trends and innovations give her a competitive edge in developing her own profitable concepts, and she is regularly looking for investors interested in working together to realize her unique visions.
