×In the living rooms of our grandparents, the television was always presented as the pride of the family. It would never have occurred to them to hide the huge set. On the contrary, the sofa and armchairs were arranged around it and the room was charged with as much cosiness as possible by blankets and the bellowing deer on the wall. The picture has now been reversed – there are usually more monitors and displays in the apartment than furniture, and the deer, if anywhere, is more likely to be found on the dinner plate.
No question: the future belongs to the smart home, but unfortunately, the prevalence of so many screens robs living rooms of their hygge, lending them as much charm as a science laboratory. ×The Sliding TV Door attracted a lot of attention at this year's imm cologne and was awarded the Red Dot Design Award. The highlight of the custom-made Sliding TV Door is that it makes the technology invisible when it is not needed, and puts it in the spotlight when it is needed. It can serve as a room divider or as a door to the wardrobe. The colour and style of the hidden media centre can be designed with maximum freedom thanks to the wide range of raumplus products.
As far back as 10 years ago, raumplus had had the idea of a door into which technology could be inserted. Unfortunately, the dimensions of TV sets at the time rendered this idea unfeasible. Sometimes though, pioneers need just be patient and allow progress to do the rest.
Thanks to today's flat screens, raumplus has now been able to realise its vision perfectly and without the need for collaboration with partners. This means any screen – up to a size of 55 inches – can be integrated into the Sliding TV Door. Grandpa would be impressed.
