Guests at the Hilton Sorrento Palace expect the best of everything, including comfortable and stylish furniture when they sit down to eat at its glamorous terrace restaurant. Fortunately, the design team behind the restaurant’s 2017 refurbishment specified outdoor furniture from RODA, which fulfils the brief for elegant practicality while complementing the eatery’s pared-back architectural design.

RODA has plenty of experience collaborating with architects on high-end projects, so studio Fadd Architects knew who to call when it was looking to furnish the J Contemporary Japanese Restaurant Sorrento. The restaurant’s dining terrace looks out across the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius, and its minimal design serves to emphasise rather than distract from the spectacular view. The eclectic yet modern aesthetic is also appropriate for a venue serving creative, contemporary Japanese cuisine.

The terrace is furnished with RODA’s NETWORK and ORSON lounge chairs, which are specified alongside the HARP bar stools, MISTRAL teak sofas and KNOT outdoor rugs to create a minimal and sophisticated dining area that earned Fadd Architects a special mention in the Interior Project category at the 2019 German Design Award.

The selection of products used throughout the scheme showcases the range of textures and materials found in RODA’s collection. The teak frames of the chairs and sofas match the surfaces in the bar area, and the seats are made from fabrics or webbing in a uniform grey hue that was selected using RODA’s Mix&Match specification tool. The result is a coherent and classical scheme that combines bespoke pieces to create a space where guests can enjoy their meal in optimal comfort and style.
