SCHOTTEN & HANSEN redefines nature

Every tree carries a secret within. And if you can discover what it is, you will learn its personal story. This is the almost magical quest to which Schotten & Hansen has dedicated itself. Wood is the element of the company co-founded by Torben Hansen in Peiting, Bavaria, in 1984. Schotten & Hansen refines the authentic character of the natural material into floors and surfaces for premium wall, ceiling and furniture design.

Their entire work process is determined by the desire to treat wood with respect: from its processing at the factory all the way to the development of value-preserving solutions for interiors. 'Our quality guarantee starts with the selection of the wood and therefore also with the partner we source it from. We know where virtually every tree trunk was grown,' says Bernhard Heinloth, one of the managing directors in charge of the company’s fortunes.

One speciality is the huge palette of colours that originate in nature. Through decades of research, Torben Hansen has found ways to transfer the colours of nature to wood. Using complex formulas, he adapts the original shade of the wood to the individual colour requirements of the customer.

The colour is created by activating ingredients in the wood itself and working in the finest pigments, which are obtained from earths or rocks. These finely ground powders penetrate deep into the pores and create harmonious hues. 'We give our wood time,' says Torben Hansen. 'Our products possess an incredible power. They’re precious companions for life.'
