Palazzo Montemartini is an early 20th century building located opposite the Termini railway station in Rome and next to an important National Archaeological Museum, once the site of the ancient Roman Baths of Diocletian. The building was renewed to become a luxury hotel by the Sudio King Roselli, which already designed the ES Hotel Radisson sas in Rome and the Sheraton Hotel in Malpensa.

The notion of water and the Roman baths of Diocletian, together with the solidity and permanence of the Servian wall surrounding the building, let to a continuous reference to the ancient Roman tradition. The stone is used both as a finish and as material for the bathtubs, wash basins and fixtures in many of the rooms and public areas. It was clearly the most siutable material, given the context, to bring the water theme to life. Water is the leitmotiv of the whole hotel and is present in the swimming pool on the roof terrace, in the fountains and channels within the building with a natural conclusion in the spa and wellness centre located in the lower ground floor, and invades some spaces where water would not normally be present. For example, the private pools in some of the rooms, or the table-fountains in the main lounge.

The furniture chosen to furnish the rooms and public spaces represent a careful selection of the best 20th century designers that are all icons of one sort or another- Prouvé, Chareau, Eames, Castiglioni.

Thanks to its successful cooperation with the Studio KING ROSELLI, Makro supplied the Hotel Montemartini with magnetic mirrors and integrated lights for all the bathrooms, and with the unique water wall in solid surface in the entry hall. The originality and the success of the mirror led to the development of this model, which has been equipped with new magnetic accessories. EGO, this is the name of the mirror, has been presented to the public at the 2013 Cersaie exhibition.
