Howard Wall Lamp
Architonic ID: 20228285
The Howard Collection of lighting is a celebration of New York's materiality as seen through Scandinavian eyes. Named after the hotel at the corner of Howard and Lafayette Streets for which their design concept was initially developed, the lamps by Space Copenhagen reference the urban typology, materiality and colors that surround 11 Howard. The collection emphasizes industrial functionality, sculptural silhouettes and the enduring patina of age.
The Howard Wall Lamp creates a sense of magic, especially when used in repetition, while still meeting the stringent maintenance, durability and safety requirements for the communal areas of the hotel that inspired it. The Howard Wall Lamp works well as an ambient ‘mood lamp’ for the home where indirect light is required, for example in the kitchen, hall or living room, where its elongated semi-spherical form, made from deep-drawn gunmetal brass, is at once elegant and understated.

Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, Space Copenhagen is a design studio that works across multiple disciplines from interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants all over the world to art installations and art direction, furniture, lighting and refined objects. Space Copenhagen describes its approach as Poetic Modernism. The ambition is to forge new paths by balancing opposites — classic and modern, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. Duality and contrast. Curiosity as a fundamental human condition. The studio’s intuitive approach embodies designs that are distinctively shaped by the given circumstances, functional needs, and a fundamental interest in human behaviour. It is a sense of and belief in slow aesthetic that centres quality and longevity. Space Copenhagen continuously adds to a roster of high-end interiors created for the likes of the award-winning 11 Howard Hotel in New York, The Stratford in London and received a Wallpaper* shortlist for best new hotel worldwide 2019, and acclaimed destination restaurants Geranium, Geist and the original Noma in Copenhagen, while partnering with some of the world’s leading manufacturers, creating lauded furniture pieces for among others, GUBI, Stellar Works, Fredericia Furniture, &Tradition and Mater.
