Concepto
The new chair Sketch is a slim contemporary version of the classic bucket seat, which will look good anywhere. Thanks to the various base options the chair can serve not only as a luxury dining room chair in the home but also around conference tables in meeting rooms and in the office. The design is entirely in keeping with Arco’s signature aesthetic. The clear line, pure shapes and understated style make for a refined look. Yet this chair also introduces a new element with its alluring circular and fully upholstered seat. It is an elegant chair that is also cosy and comfortable.
Arco awarded the design contract to two designers who designed the chair together: Burkhard Vogtherr, and old-hand who has been one of Arco’s star designers since 2000, and Jon Prestwich, who opened his own design studio in London in 2003. Prestwich spent six years working as Voghtherr’s right-hand man in Voghtherr’s studio in Mulhouse in France and worked on design contracts for Arco and Fritz Hansen among other clients. In recent years he has been working as an independent designer and has produced designs for various furniture manufacturers, including Modus in England.

Germany
Born in 1942, between 1972 and his death in 2019 Burkhard Vogtherr ran a product design agency. He worked for prestigious furniture manufacturers the world over, was one of the most famous German furniture designers, and won multiple awards during his career. His expertise in areas such as sitting posture at work and movement sequences was incorporated in his designs for swivel chairs and conference furniture. However, Burkhard Vogtherr did not restrict himself just to form and design – he developed prototypes that stand in their own right. This often resulted in highly inventive furniture leading to patents across the globe.

United Kingdom
In 1995, after completing his industrial design studies, Jonathan Prestwich moved to Boston. Since 2004, the Brit has run his own studio in London. In the first few years after graduating, he spent six years working with the well-known furniture designer Burkhard Vogtherr in France. As a result of his many years of experience and his cooperation with various designers, Prestwich has an extensive knowledge of how good products are made. Office furniture and lighting design are a particular focus. He especially enjoys designing products for the generations to come, and combines inspiration from nature with ultra-modern technology to create simple, elegant and innovative products.
