bert plantagie® is a Dutch design brand that translates furniture trends into a contemporary collection of sofas, armchairs, chairs and tables, cabinets and sideboards in its own unique way. The bert plantagie company, situated in The Netherlands, is a typically Dutch furniture brand with a long tradition. The origins go back to 1958, when Johannes Smits founded 'Smits Stalen Meubelen' (Smits Steel Furniture). Initially the company focused on camping and garden furniture, but in the 1980's Smits started to specialise more in furniture for amusement parks and health facilities. In 2000 Bert Plantagie took over. He gave his name to the company (but omitted the uppercases to prevent confusion with him as a person) and set out a new direction. The bert plantagie collection started to focus more on the consumer market, with sophisticated design of unprecedented quality as guideline. bert plantagie is now an established brand that is sold in >1.000 furniture stores in different countries. About 3.000 pieces of furniture leave our European based production facilities on a weekly basis. And we still serve the prjoject market with the experience of former times.
