The cooking journey is as significant as the outcome in the kitchen. Embracing this concept, the new NEFF Collection prioritises user experience by offering customisation and adaptability in its cutting-edge appliances.

Over the past 20 years, it’s been a single innovation that has set NEFF apart from other makers of high-quality built-in kitchen appliances – the Slide and Hide® oven door. Now a series of innovative features for the new NEFF Collection of ovens, hoods, hobs and coffee makers are making waves by bringing fun and flexibility to the functional parts of the kitchen.

Interactive kitchen design

For NEFF, the kitchen should be a place of play. In a bid to uplift not only the culinary outcome of a cooking session but the process too, the German brand has developed Flex Design and Flex Control, adaptable elements that invite owners to interact with the design and the user experience of their appliance.

Flex Design offers magnetic trims that frame hobs and ovens in a variety of finishes, from Brushed Bronze and Anthracite Grey (seen here) to Deep Black and Metallic Silver

Flex Design is an initiative that allows you to customise the handles and trim around your appliances, aligning them with your material, textural and colour preferences. The Collection has four finishes to choose from: Brushed Bronze, Anthracite Grey, Deep Black and Metallic Silver. The trims are designed in such a way that they can easily be removed and switched at will, so that your hob or oven can adapt and change with your mood or even your menu. It is also a way to update the look to evolve with your kitchen, thereby lengthening the life of the appliance.

While Flex Design provides the means to change the appearance of an appliance, Flex Control’s nomadic knob and the Slide and Hide oven door switch up the haptics in the kitchen

Dialling up the haptics

Flex Control meanwhile, brings playful haptics to turning up the heat or timing your bake. They are control knobs and interfaces that adapt to your preference – you can swipe or tap, or pick up the magnetic control dial and move it to another appliance entirely; the interface instantly and intuitively falls into line.  It doesn’t change how succulent your joint ends up, or how light your cake turns out, but it makes the experience of producing them a joyful event.

The flexibility of the appliance designs can ultimately mean a lengthened life, since the small changes can replace bigger more wasteful changes

‘Often designs are made for just one person or one target group in the kitchen,’ says Ralf Grobleben, head of design at NEFF. ‘But they are different people inside a household and we want to give these people the ability to choose.’ It’s an approach that reflects the spirit of the times, where the proof is not so much in the pudding, but in the unique journey that led to the pudding.
