BIMisation: how BIM is changing the construction industry

BIM World MUNICH will feature a comprehensive programme of events covering all aspects of Building Information Modeling. One of the focus points: How can digital transformation contribute to more sustainability in construction?

What impact does BIM have on the construction and real estate industries? Answers will be given during the extensive lecture programme

Two days, three stages, many minds: the international congress programme offers a variety of insights into the rapidly advancing digitalisation of the construction and real estate industry.

One of the more important issues this year is BIM in the context of sustainable construction. This topic will be presented by the German Sustainable Building Council. The question of how digital transformation can contribute to greater sustainability in construction and what is still possible in the future will be explored. Practical examples from the real world of construction as well as results from theory and research, such as the ONIB (Integration of Sustainability Requirements into Digital Building Models) research project from Leibniz University in Hanover, will be presented.

In addition to numerous lectures, panel discussions will offer a variety of insights into the rapidly developing digitalisation of the construction and real estate industries

Another area of focus this year will be cloud-based BIM solutions and tools. In relation to this theme, Staab Architects will report on cloud-based construction cost management with Open BIM. Datengut, a part of the RIB Group, will also present on possibilities for mobile work on the construction site. As well as this, Hilti and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will speak on the subject of integral planning.

Management consultant Kai-Stefan Schober from Roland Berger will explain how ‘BIMisation’ is affecting the entire industry – the changes it brings and the opportunities it creates. Microsoft will also be there to present on the digital trends that are fundamentally changing the industry.

The international lecture programme will take place over two days on three different stages

Digitalisation in the construction and real estate industries is also growing in importance at EU and municipal level. For the first time at BIM, this year a representative from the European Commission will report on the digital trends in the EU construction industry. In concrete terms, this will involve digital applications for cities and local authorities, the potential and also the challenges related to virtual reality and BIM for communication in public construction projects as well as GeoServices for municipalities.
