You’d be forgiven for thinking there isn’t a great deal of scope for innovation in something as simple and ubiquitous as wallpaper. However, leading Italian brand Glamora has been creating pioneering wallcoverings since 2010 and recently received an Honourable Mention at the 2022 Compasso d’Oro Awards for its unique and sustainable Komorebi Collection.

Komorebi is a Japanese term that evokes the image of sunlight filtering through the trees. This vision of the tranquillity and energy found in nature informed the use of sustainable materials, as well as the creation of designs incorporating bountiful flowers and verdant foliage. The jury of the 27th Compasso d’Oro Awards noted that the collection ‘promotes a biophilia-based approach to living and encourages a reconnection with nature.’

The Komorebi Collection’s key innovation, and the reason it now joins the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI Collection, is its use of the sophisticated and entirely organic GlamPure material. The non-woven plant-based fabric is made from pure European linen and viscose, making it compostable and eco-compatible. The Komorebi Collection on GlamPure embodies Glamora’s research-led approach to developing wallcovering products that bring something new and valuable to an established market.

The Komorebi Collection also draws inspiration from the Japandi aesthetic, which merges Japanese and Scandinavian influences to create interiors with a calming and minimalist yet warm and natural feel. The 16 wallcovering designs combine natural components and lightweight weaves to create layers of tactile textures. The result is a series of versatile, neutral designs with a natural look and feel that makes them ideally suited to settings intended to support psychological and physical wellbeing.
