‘There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper’: 19th-century British author John Ruskin’s observation has lost none of its relevance. He also added as a warning to his readers: ‘...and the people who consider price alone are that person’s lawful prey.’

What does all this have to do with Gira? Well, like every manufacturer who invests a lot of creativity, time and money in the development and production of genuine design originals, Gira has also had its own experiences with plagiarism. This topic was the subject of a panel discussion at the imm cologne Furniture Fair recently, where representatives of leading design manufacturers considered the central question: ‘What makes an original an original?’

Alongside Hans-Jörg Müller, Gira’s Product and Design Area Manager, Markus Benz (Walter Knoll), Michael Holnsteiner (Artemide), Leo Lübke (COR), Norbert Ruf (Thonet), Holger Struck (Dornbracht), Thorsten Stute (Hewi) and Bernd Wagner (USM) took part in the event. Those looking to learn more about the course of this discussion and others from the Pure Architects Lounge at imm are recommended to visit the Gira’a online magazine G-Pulse.

With a clear layout and a contemporary visual language, as well as trend reports and detailed specialist articles, it is aimed explicitly at architects and interior designers. Separate sections have been set up for the other key areas of ‘Building & Renovation’ and ‘Smart Living’ and currently, you can find information about the highlights of the upcoming Architecture Biennale in Venice, or get to know London design duo Raw Edges, for example. No doubt about it: With G-Pulse, Gira has another original on its hands.
