Lighting

Greek manufacturer Bright Special Lighting produces lighting solutions as much as lighting fixtures, solutions that have helped shape metro stations, restaurants, hotel complexes, museums, airports the world over.

Each Bright project is a collaboration with architects and engineers to develop the best lighting solution. For the Ever Eden Hotel in Anavissos, Bright worked across the entire resort, inside and out

The Greek lighting company Bright Special Lighting is proud of its origins. The Athens-based company has been in the market for over 30 years, holds a leading industry position in its home country, boasts a team of 160, has six showrooms in Greece, and has representatives around the world.

Alongside the industry titans from countries with strong design and manufacturing traditions in the field, Bright might be taken by the outside world as something of a boutique brand, but its impressive portfolio of international projects suggests it is doing something right. It easily holds its own against foreign competition and puts its success down to always staying one step ahead.

One step ahead means an approach to lighting that is holistic. Bright doesn’t aim to sell lighting fixtures, but lighting. It’s an outlook that has never been more apt than now, when lighting has become as much about its ambient effect as the technology behind it. Building planners no longer simply look for the fixtures that fit the aesthetics of a space, but rather shop for light quality, while architects seek systems and arrangements that can mould and sculpt light to enhance mood and wellbeing, and adapt to different uses and practical requirements.

Bright’s exploratory approach is supported by a dedication to research and development. Its hand is in every project it takes on from start to finish – from the first pencil mark on paper, to final installation. Everything is studied, designed, engineered, produced, tested, modified in-house and then installed with the team’s technical support.

Each project is a fully engaged collaboration with architects and engineers to evolve and develop the right lighting solution. The company’s portfolio contains over 2000 designs, but these are considered launchpads that can be evolved and customised to fit individual projects. Fixtures are made according to need – each lighting fitting can be made bespoke to accommodate the project’s requirements.

Those needs vary, inevitably, in different building types; the illuminating requirements for an office are very different from those of a hospital. Lighting retail spaces for clothes demands different technical considerations to those for selling fruit. For some functions, lighting needs to be directed up, for some it comes downwards. Expertise in these finer details has been honed by Bright over many vastly different sites, from metro stations, restaurants and banks to fashion outlets, hotel resorts, gyms, museums, hospitals and airports all over the world.

Bright’s innovative LED lighting is installed indoors and outdoors across all manner of public and private spaces, with the utmost attention afforded to energy efficiency.Issuing from a country with no real lighting design culture has only made Bright more focused on earning its stripes. Its credibility and therefore competitiveness in the international market relies on being able to guarantee the standards and quality the world demands.

The in-house laboratory has grown considerably over the last ten years and is focussed on quality control alongside exploratory work and the pursuit of ever more sustainable practices. The materials required for an outdoor lighting fixture that will withstand climatic conditions in Finland will, naturally, be quite different from those required in Dubai, where temperatures can soar.

Every project is assessed in the context of its own specific criteria. The Bright LAB which works with the most advanced certifications puts every new system through extensive monitoring and tests, aiming to fulfil European standards and the photometric data for all its lighting.

Bright would like us not only to see Greece as Europe’s favourite provider of quality UV rays through the long summer months, but also as a source of beautiful, energy-efficient light for all seasons.
