The history of the firm founded in 1977 under the name Interprofil is dotted with design awards – a success story that continued unbroken when it was integrated into the JAB Anstoetz Group as Interprofil KG in 2006.

Last year the collection was renamed ipdesign – a name that now also stands for exclusive, design-oriented solitaire furniture which, along with the Bielefelder Werkstätten collections, signals the manufacturer's commitment to the top-end segment. "First and foremost, what we expect of our own products is a reflection of our customers' expectations," says Claus Anstoetz. He situates the hand-crafted sofas and armchairs with special functions in the lifeworld of people who appreciate modern design, exclusiveness and uncompromising quality.

"For us, it's all about creating accented and intelligent solutions which don't for instance give centre stage to the mechanical functions of a recliner and are extremely easy to use," says the head of the company with obvious enthusiasm. Together with the brand's mainly minimalist design, leather plays a crucial role in the models of the ipdesign collection. Besides guaranteeing the furniture's distinctive character and longevity, the material also ensures the kind of look and feel that does not equate quality of life and quality interiors with voluminous easy chairs. It goes without saying that only the best leather is used – aniline or semi-aniline dyed, because pigmented leathers lose their naturalness under a layer of colour that produces a uniform surface.

That's out of the question for the leather upholstered furniture by ipdesign. It can develop a patina, provides top seating comfort, an optimal microclimate for the user, an attractive, soft feel, and ages rather than wearing out. But the leather covering is only the crowning glory of a hand-crafted production process in which one upholsterer is responsible for a complete model. The metal substructure and its fine surfaces, the upholstery foams (the different densities and hardnesses of which have to be carefully specified and selected) and, last but not least, the reliable mechanisms and fittings – these are the components on which the excellent reputation of the ipdesign collection is founded, from the "Jon Edwards" range all the way to "Drift" and "Cliff".

Every success story starts out with an idea from a designer and a stimulating collaboration between designer and manufacturer. And when – as is the case at ipdesign – both focus on the customers' needs and expectations, the success makes all the effort worthwhile.
