STARON® – Inspired by Wildlife
A killer whale, an owl and an armadillo were among the creatures that inspired a collection of furniture and products presented by Lotte Chemical Deutschland at the recent London Design Festival to demonstrate the versatility of its STARON® solid-surface material. Architonic went along to discuss the new species of products enabled by these innovative surfaces.

Lotte Chemical's solid-surface material STARON® was used to create a series of nature-inspired objects for this year's 100% Design, including the Owl Speaker shown here

Patterns found in nature, such as the stripes of a zebra, were applied to STARON® surfaces using lithographic printing processes

Rows of spikes contrasted with the curvaceous surface of the hedgehog sofa, demonstrating the kinds of complex shapes that can be produced using STARON®

Daring visitors to the STARON® stand reclined on the surprisingly soft silicone spikes of the Hedgehog Sofa

The STARON® team is able to draw on expertise from the rest of the Lotte Chemical group to help designers integrate technologies such as LED light sources in custom-made products, here, the Armadillo Bathtub

Lighting integrated into the base of the Armadillo Bathtub, which was named 'Design In Brand' by Media 10, illuminated the layered formation of seemingly delicate moulded surfaces

A basin cast into the top of the sculptural Humpback Whale Kitchen Island showed how the seamless solid material creates non-porous hygienic surfaces
