Light design with LUCTRA®

Success at the Milan Design Week is considered a great honour amongst those in the design, architecture and lighting trades. The great public attraction of 2015 was the LUCTRA® lamp system, with an unusual light installation which fascinated more than 18,000 visitors. 800 white plastic buckets with 20,500 drill holes, 6,180 metres of cable and 2,160 LEDs radiating light in 256,000 colours and shades – these are the hard facts of the installation. What the numbers do not reflect is the soulful feeling which radiated from the LUCTRA® video wall.

Light in varying colours conveyed the emotional experience and feel of a full day from sunrise to sunset, with typical street scenes and scenes from everyday life including variations in weather conditions. The manufacturer DURABLE – a well-known German brand company – together with the well-known design agency yellow design, developed the unique presentation at the Ventura Lambrate, one of several locations of the Milan Design Week. In an impressive manner the installation illustrated the special aspects of LUCTRA® lamps: biologically effective light, which can be adjusted to suit one's own daily rhythm.

Following the great advance success at other fairs, such as the Orgatec, imm Cologne and Paperworld, together with product awards such as the Red Dot and the Interior Design Award, the trade has been waiting for the market launch of LUCTRA® with positive expectations. Now the first models are available in the shape of TABLE PRO table lamps, which illuminate desks individually and optimally.

LUCTRA® combines proven biological light effect with innovative elegance. Thanks to sophisticated LED technology and lighting strengths of up to 1,000 lux with very even light distribution, the lamps achieve almost daylight quality. Similarly to sunlight, LUCTRA® alters the light colour in the course of the day – individually and automatically. All lamps are equipped with the intelligent VITACORE® electronic system, which offers users intuitive access to the LUCTRA® functions. The brightness and colour of the light can be adjusted with a high degree of accuracy by simply placing a finger on the touch panel. The free VITACORE® app turns LUCTRA® into a flexible lighting tool. It memorises an individually adjustable light profile which varies light strength and light colour independently, thus simulating natural course of the day.

TABLE PRO is available with either the progressive-geometric (LINEAR) or harmoniously round (RADIAL) lamp head, and with three standing or fixing options. a lamp base (BASE), table clamp (CLAMP) or pin for insertion into drill holes between 20 and 80 mm in diameter (PIN). The corpus made of aluminium and steel is available in aluminium, black or white.

The characteristic lamp heads with their open cooling fins conduct the warmth of the LEDs away efficiently, so that the temperature of the lamp heads never exceeds 40oC.

The positive effects are an extremely long service life for the LEDs of up to 50,000 hours, low power consumption and thus sustainability in every respect. Self-locking joints especially developed for LUCTRA® allow adjustment of the lamp to any position desired.

DURABLE engaged well-known experts for the product development. The award-winning design was created by Professor Günter Horntrich and his yellow design bureau of designers. Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kuipers, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Südwestfalen and Dr. Dieter Kunz, Head Physician of Sleep and Chronomedicine at St. Hedwig’s Hospital in Berlin and Managing Director of Intellux GmbH, both contributed to the technical development and the biological lighting effect.
