Biography

Platau is a collaborative platform of architects and thinkers operating in the fields of design, architecture, urbanism, landscape, research and development. Our portfolio includes projects in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, ranging in scale from spatial installations to mixed-use buildings to strategic visions.

Platau uses design research, critical thinking and intensive communication to tailor projects to the needs of their users and environments, as well as their evolution over time. Each project emerges out of a careful analysis of program, context, budget and requirements.

We foreground the relationship of form with organization, performance, materiality and experience rather than a specific architectural style. Between pragmatism and utopia, platau works with cities through self-initiated speculations in which built environments are better perceived and experienced.

Sandra Frem holds a DES in Architecture from the Lebanese University, and a Master of Science in Architecture Studies and Urbanism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both with distinction. In parallel with practice, Sandra is committed to intellectual pursuits in design research and taught studios at the Lebanese American University’s School of Architecture and Design between 2009 and 2014. She has been a frequent juror at various universities and lectured extensively on design, urbanism and ecological infrastructure, both locally and internationally.

Boulos Douaihy holds a DES in Architecture from the Lebanese University and a Master in "Environment et Amenagement du Territoire" from the Universite St Joseph. Boulos brings to platau his experience in the design and execution of projects of various types and scales as well as a multidisciplinary approach to architecture, involving domains that vary from geography and sociology to parametric design and art installations.

Romeo Chahine holds a DES in Architecture from the Lebanese University. As a senior designer, Romeo has an extensive experience in the design, development and execution and managements of a wide range of projects. Throughout his career, Romeo has focused on design attitudes that push the limits of local technologies, building codes and construction methods for a renewed interpretation of program and form.
