The First Ward is a new salon in Tulsa, OK located in a former brothel. To preserve the beautiful state of decay that existed in the space, we designed a new interior wooden structure, which holds the program of the salon while also allowing you to view the original walls beyond. Two large monoliths – one made of walnut, the other made of brass – anchor the entrance to the salon, and divide the lounge from the salon stations. Wallpaper, plaster and painted brick, all dating from the days of the brothel, are viewed sequentially through the framework of the new structure.
