BERLIN
SUMMER FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FEDERAL PRESIDENT

FOR THE CELBRATION OF THE FEDERAL PRESIDENT AT THE CASTLE BELLEVUE A 30 x 35 m TENT WAS CONSTRUCTED. AS AN EXAMPLE OF AN INNOVATIVE TEXTILE ARCHITECTURE THE AMORPHOUS TENT "CENTRE BELLEVUE" WAS POSITIONED IN THE CENTRE OF THE PARK BY CASTLE BELLEVUE. THE TENT WAS BUILT TO SUIT THE EVENT, CREATING A UNIQUE SPECIMEN. THE CURVED SHAPE CREATED A PLEASANT, PROTECTED ATMOSPHERE WHICH ENCOURAGED GUESTS TO STAY AND MINGLE.

RANGE OF THE CONCEPT
MDT’s specific expertise in the combination of series products and special designs was put the test at the German president’s summer project. Requiring space, comfort, and protection from the weather for over 5,000 guests, an umbrella landscape with 35 large umbrellas of four to six meters in diameter each were installed and grouped into several islands around the central large tent with an area of approximately 30 x 35 meters. A comprehensive range of umbrellas, floors, and accessories such as lighting and heating, makes MDT the perfect partner for furnishing upscale events. In Berlin, the customized tent was the crowning glory.

FREE DESIGN
At the heart of the bold example of the textile architecture was the amorphous tent in the middle of the park. MDT’s concept was chosen through a design competition by the client and was completed within a short period of time through in-house construction and production.
The prerequisites for this type of project are an approved official structural analysis review and structural specifications. Close cooperation with specialists in supporting-frame structural analysis and membrane design enabled maximum safety and was certified for the event prior to delivery by a TÜV approval at MDT, as well as on-site by the TÜV in Berlin.
Logistics, cost-efficiency, and flexibility were key points when it came to choosing a building contractor. Seamless integration into the event’s complex processes were achieved. The space covering nearly 700 square meters gave guests the opportunity to stroll around and enjoy full effect of the unusual tent design. The arched shape created a very pleasing atmosphere.

A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION
The tent was designed to be used again and again. This concept lent itself to an easy-up/easy-down design. To ensure proper safety standards this tent was checked by the Safety Standards Authority of Berlin. The assembly and setup was performed by a well trained MDTTeam. Heritage-protected lawns, brief setup times, and only a small temporary storage area rendered the project a large-scale logistical challenge – requiring six trucks with 13 loading meters of volume each.
