The concept behind Oddsson is contrast high and low culture, leaving everything mainstream out. This simple idea has served both as a design compass but also the freedom to create something very different from the hotels and hostels we are used to.

At Oddsson, there is a happy marriage between the integrity of the industrial architecture found in the original warehouse building, and Döðlur’s own eclectic aesthetic and custom pieces. The custom made pieces are inspired by the creativity that can be found in factories where leftover material, for example pipes and blue profiles, is used to create simple, raw but beautiful furniture.

Oddsson is a gallery for furniture lovers the mix of our own design and furniture masterpieces from late last century. A lot of effort has been put into a nice collection of furniture with very rare design gems from the likes of: Pierre Jeanneret, Augusto Bozzi, Pierre Paulin, Pierre Chapo, Mario Bellini, Tobia Scarpa, Alessandro Becci, Paul Evans, Ettore Sottsass, Mario Botta, Alessandro Mendini, Gerrit Rietveld, Eero Saarinen, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, DeSede, Gervan, Milo Baughman, Michel Ducaroy, Maison Jansen and Tomasso Barbi just to name drop a few. It’s a perfect place for thrifty people with an expensive taste.

Oddsson is located in one of the most famous buildings in Iceland JL HÚSIÐ (JL HOUSE). Oddsson´s accommodation is on the 4th and 5th floors and the reception is on the ground level. The noticeable warehouse building is an architectural monument from the 1940s, located directly on the west bank of center of Reykjavík. It offers a spectacular view over the Faxaflói (Faxbay).

The rooms are diverse and offer a good selection and quality of accommodation for different types of travellers. "We offer a wide range of accommodation, from single rooms and bunk beds to hotel rooms and a large suite with stunning ocean views. We can accommodate up to 230 guests and our hostel facilities are excellent, providing a fully equipped kitchen and a movie room. Next to the kitchen is a rooftop terrace with a jacuzzi where guests can relax".

The great soul of Oddsson is the yoga and meditation room where locals and guests alike are welcome to attend classes. One of Oddsson´s unique feature is the Lost Luggage Program, where the unlucky guests who lose their luggage on their way to Iceland will be able to borrow clothes. The goal of this program is to ensure that lost luggage does not mean a lost vacation.

The ground floor reflects contrast at the highest level. There you will find a casual lounge, café and bistro where guests like to hang out, and if you keep on walking along the curved building, you will find yourself in Bazaar, a fine dining Italian restaurant featuring a very impressive selection of fantastic Italian wine and food.

"We take our concept very seriously, for example there is a luxurious hotel suite next to bunkbeds, there is a soundproof karaoke room in the middle of a fine dining restaurant, there is a Caviar on the take away menu and our own Oddsson custom made furniture is next to an extremely rare Pierre Jeanneret chair and Tomasso Barbi floor. Hence, the design brief became some sort of a combination of styles. A mix of minimalism and brutalism".
