House NB is an architecture and interior design project by architects Anna and Krzysztof Paszkowski-Thurow from Anna Thurow Architecture and Interiors. This house – consisting of three volumes that define its layout – was built on the last plot of land available in a fully urbanised area in Szczecin, Poland. While its modern features deliberately contrast with other local buildings, the façade’s texture and colours create a dialogue with the surroundings. Although it almost seems inaccessible from the roadside, the house opens towards the garden. This garden follows the shape of the building and extends into the interiors through a fully glazed patio and sliding window walls, creating visual continuity between interiors and exteriors. The interiors are emphasised by the texture and muted and neutral shades of high-quality materials used. For example, the floors (205 sq.m) are made with Casalgrande Padana’s large-format porcelain stoneware tiles (90x90 cm, 120x120 cm, and 120x260 cm) from the Architecture and Pietre di Sardegna collections. In addition, they perfectly express the architects’ style and the house’s modern aesthetic, where open-plan spaces flow between the “blocks” containing the family members’ rooms.
