Plywood Trio Apartment In Madrid

The apartment refurbishment is solved through the introduction of three plywood furniture elements that work as intermediate filters between the different programs: the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom and the dressing room. These elements condense the access, the storage and the light entrance of every program. Therefore, they work as server elements of the spaces they distribute. The purpose of this operation is to maintain the main space as clear as possible.

These three wooden pieces are moved slightly overtaking the existent walls showing themselves as independent self-supporting furniture. These furniture elements are made of plywood bringing warmth into the interior space and building a closer scale. The first element is composed by a staircase used to get to the main bedroom. This element divides, as well, the guest bedroom from the living room and allows the light of the upper floor skylights to bounce off the down floor.

Down the stair landing there is an entrance filter to a guest bedroom that incorporates an interior patio window which illuminates this hidden area. This piece solves a wardrobe located down the second flight of this staircase. Blankets, slippers, magazines and other domestic devices are stored down the first staircase flight. This staircase element becomes a working table when it gets to the upper floor. The second plywood element is a kitchen work surface which is opened to the dining room. Down this surface is located the kitchen storage. The third plywood element is a big wooden drawer that solves the bathroom entrance and a cleaning products wardrobe. On top of them, there is a big window that brings natural light into the bathroom.
