Otto Prutscher – Cutlery No. 179
Cutlery from Wiener Silber Manufactur, Designed by Otto Prutscher
Product description
Purity of form is the particular feature of Otto Prutscher' s cutlery No. 181, a first masterpiece of Viennese Art Déco: clearly in the tradition of Josef Hoffmann, but imbued with the spirit of a new age. The lines of the handles are unusual: a rounded thread runs along the two outside edges. The forks and spoons reveal interesting solutions at the bottom of the handle, where the threads stop before the end of the central main part. In the knife the thread runs completely around the end of the handle, which is rounded. A design with an understated elegance.
The set of cutlery No. 179 designed by Otto Prutscher in the 1930s is richly rounded. The slightly curved upper face of the handles is characteristic of his work from the 1930s.
The contrast between the soft organic forms and the material's shimmering hardness constitutes this pattern's particular appeal. The pieces rest solidly and securely in the hand.
