Concept

Hong Ngo-Aandal is a Swedish industrial designer who developed the CODE modular bench system together with Johan Verde. Verde is not only one of Norway’s best-known industrial designers, but is recognised as a leading figure in Europe too.
LOOPER is the result of the design duo’s desire to solve a practical challenge facing landscape architects and urban planners. When winter arrives and snow falls, cycle stands and bollards can interfere with effective snow clearing. Or the area where the stands are to be installed needs flexible solutions so that different types of event can be held during the year.
LOOPER solves this problem by having a sturdy raising and lowering mechanism, with the lowered stand lying horizontally in the concrete base, flush with the ground. This means that it can hibernate out of harm’s way, but still be ready to use in an instant when needed. The idiom is simple and intuitive, but has the characteristic identity of a loop. When the stand is locked in its vertical position, the cycle is supported at two points. The stand is covered with through-dyed PUR (polyurethane) so as not to scrape the cycle.
